Bart Kavanagh, Partner
Bart Kavanagh is a Chartered Architect with over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry throughout the UK and in the Middle East. He holds an LLM degree and was called to the Bar in 2011. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Having acted as lead Architect at several commercial architectural practices and as design manager at a national contractor, Bart has an extensive experience of design, design management, construction detailing and contract administration. This experience encompasses traditional, design & build and construction management contracts.
Since 2012 he has been instructed as an expert witness in over 180 cases relating to professional negligence, design and building defects, contract administration, and numerous technical issues, Bart has been cross examined on his expert evidence in the High Court, and in international arbitration proceedings, where he has participated in witness conferencing. He has also presented evidence in numerous adjudication proceedings. In addition, he has undertaken extensive training in international arbitration and mediation and has acted as assistant mediator in several disputes.
Since 2017, Bart has advised on the performance and regulatory compliance of external cladding with respect to fire safety on more than 50 high rise residential buildings. Since 2021 Bart has been a member of the technical author panel responsible for the content of PAS 9980:2022 Fire risk appraisal of external wall construction and cladding of existing blocks of flats – Code of practice.
